This book is the first interdisciplinary reader focusing on immigrant women in the United States. Part I includes three chapters by a historian, a sociologist, and an anthropologist summarizing the way research on immigrant women has developed in the three disciplines. DONNA GABACCIA is Charles Stone Professor of American History at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Her published works include From Sicily to Elizabeth Street (1984), Militants and Migrants (1988), and Immigrant Women in the United States: An Annotated Bibliography (Greenwood, 1989). She is currently writing a history of immigrant women in the United States.
