About the Author:

Professor Andrew J. McClurg is a prominent legal scholar in the areas of tort law, privacy law, legal education, and gun violence.  He holds the Herbert Herff Chair of Excellence in Law at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.  Previously, he was a member of the founding faculty at Florida International University College of Law and the Nadine H. Baum Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.  He also has taught at Wake Forest University, the University of Colorado, and Golden Gate University.McClurg has received numerous awards for both teaching and research.  He's the author of eight books and dozens of scholarly articles.  His law school prep book, 1L of a Ride: A Well-Traveled Professor's Roadmap to Success in the First Year of Law School (West 2d ed. 2013), is assigned as recommended or required reading at law schools throughout the country.  (A 13-part video course to accompany the book was released in 2016.)  His book, The "Companion Text" to Law School: Understanding and Surviving Life with a Law Student, is the only book designed to prepare the loved ones of law students for the wild and crazy adventure awaiting them.As a legal commentator, McClurg has been quoted by National Public Radio, Time, U.S. News and World Report, the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Politifact, and dozens of other media sources.For four years, McClurg was the monthly humor columnist for the American Bar Association Journal, the magazine of the U.S. legal profession.  As a hobby, he sings and plays in a Memphis rock band.
