Grade 3-5-- Standard instructional information for beginners on how to play baseball. The introduction takes a brief look at the history of the game, a handful of its legendary players, and the statistics involved in the sport. The meat of the book instructs readers on the arts of batting, pitching, and fielding the various positions. Terms are defined in the glossary; no index appears. Black-and-white photographs and line drawings provide both action shots from Major League play and illustrations of the techniques described in print. Crose quite often refers to his personal playing experiences, although his name is not readily recognizable and no biographical information is included. While many similar how-to books exist, if they are frequently off the shelves this title could beef up that area of the collection.
