From Library Journal:

As this novel opens in 1930, 25-year-old Devon Richmond is wealthy, beautiful, intelligent, and the belle of Virginia high society. Our heroine meets and quickly marries handsome New York businessman John Alexander, and this golden couple seems set to live happily ever after as Devon determines to become an owner and breeder of thoroughbred horses. Alas, life among the rich and glamorous is far from perfect, but Devon gracefully counters every crisis (e.g., divorce, death, World War II, jealous rivals, the Ku Klux Klan, cancer) attired in designer duds, always the center of an admiring circle of family, friends, and servants. The action has an annoying tendency to come to a halt while yet another dream dress by Dior is lovingly described, and the plot is predictable and the heroine spoiled, but McGehee (the editor of Washington Report on Latin America and the Caribbean ) does hold reader interest until the end of this light, entertaining first novel. Recommended where Danielle Steel and Janet Dailey are popular.
