Highly-respected poet Tony Mitton has written many titles for children, including the picture books illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees: 'Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus!', 'Down by the Cool of the Pool', 'Spookyrumpus' (winner of the Sheffield Book Prize, the Dundee Book Award and the Portsmouth Book Award) and 'Jolly Olly Octopus'. Tony spends his time writing, giving poetry performances and visiting primary schools. Tony lives in Cambridge. Mandy Sutcliffe was born in Stockport and loved drawing from an early age. She studied illustration at Leeds University, spending part of her degree course based in Paris. During this time, Mandy spent hours drawing and painting in Parisian parks, inspired by the world around her. It was while she was in Paris that Mandy first heard the name 'Belle' and began to develop the little girl character who would go on to star in her stories. Mandy has drawn on her own childhood memories to create the world of Belle and Boo, basing many of their adventures on her own experiences. She wants to create a world that captures all the freedom of childhood; a timeless world of fun, exploration and adventure. Today, Belle and Boo is a successful international lifestyle brand with many different product ranges and over 500 stockists worldwide. Mandy lives in Bristol with her partner and their young twin sons, Ellis and Sam.From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 1--Quiet rhyming couplets and richly colored paintings will help ease young children to sleep. A brother and sister prepare for bed by bidding "Goodnight" to various items, beginning with those located outside their home. The youngsters proffer: "Goodnight moon and glimmering stars./Goodnight swish of passing cars." The words gradually bring the children to items inside, closer to one another and to slumber: "Goodnight pillow, soft and deep,/full of peace and dreams and sleep./Goodnight kiss... one cheek, then two./Goodnight me... and goodnight you." The oil paint on paper illustrations are soft and appealing, showing the dark landscape filled with various animals snuggled together for the night. An evening storm brings a brief rain shower but the bedroom is warm and bright, creating a comfy, secure environment, conducive to sleep. Read this to graduates of Margaret Wise Brown's Goodnight Moon (HarperCollins, 1947) and little ones are sure to be lulled to dreamland.--Maryann H. Owen, Racine Public Library, WI
