Judy Reinen is an internationally acclaimed photographer of animals and the creator of a popular line of greeting cards for Hallmark. She and her husband live in New Zealand with their four cats and one dog. From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-Reinen claims that cats and dogs do exactly what readers do from morning until bedtime; her photos present a variety of scenes that humorously prove her point. Bow Wow's canine narrator notes, "We wake up early in the morning-and wait for our breakfast to be served," while the accompanying photo depicts an American cocker spaniel, dressed in a pink feather boa with winged harlequin glasses lounging beside a plate of pink-iced doughnuts. Dogs are pictured carrying a feather duster; eating a large bowl of ice cream; pushing a pram; going for a drive; taking a bubble bath; and finally, going to sleep, complete with nightcap. Meow has much the same format with a few varied activities: cats going to school, fishing, curling their hair (with rollers), and reading. The clear, crisp photos in both titles are excellent, though of course staged, and consequently a bit static. The backgrounds of various bold colors result in little flow between the pages.
