Reviews

PreS-Gr.1. In the previous book, Elinor and Violet: Two Naughty Chickens (2001), the duo got into a fair share of trouble; here, the chickens take it to the beach. Violet is a real hellion, and Elinor's mother is not thrilled with the relationship. But to Elinor, Violet is delicious, a friend who thinks up the most devilish things to do--and does them. Elinor's mother reminds her daughter that she can think for herself and that she trusts her to step back from Violet's plans when they seem wrong. Elinor can't do that when Violet suggests that they go to the beach, but when it comes time for swimming alone in the ocean, Elinor asserts herself. The bright pictures are both funny and sly. Like the earlier book, this perfectly captures the lure of a naughty friend--the one parents dread. Ilene Cooper
