A good primer on pregnancy and childbirth, it stresses avenues to achieve proper health and provides information and advice on problems. Especially enlightening is the section on environmental and chemical hazards. The core concept, though, is choice. Discussed in an unbiased manner are such topics as birth center versus hospital; doctor versus midwife; and breast versus bottle. Though lacking an index, this book compares favorably with The Complete Pregnancy Workbook ( LJ 10/15/86).
