9780324261301: Industrial Organization: Contemporary Theory and Practice (with Economic Applications)

This textbook brings modern I/O analysis to the undergraduate level. Consistent with modern analysis, the authors focus explicitly on the nature of strategic interaction and make extensive use of game theoretic tools. At the same time, they never lose sight of the policy motivation behind much IO analysis. Formal analysis is combined with many practical applications, and the presentation does not assume familiarity with calculus, rather it relies on the ability to work through algebraic equations.

Review:

New texts that successfully establish the cornerstone of a different intellectual tradition must be simple and understandable for all readers...Because of its accessibility I believe that this text is positioned to do this and may become the primer for its approach. Raymond L. Raab, University of Minnesota - Duluth

I definitely would consider using this text. It brings in the research of the last two decades without being impossibly difficult for undergraduates. Ann Harper Fender, Gettysburg College

The prose is quite readable and engaging. I found things discussed in a very interesting manner. The use of examples that are current, and easy to relate with is good and very helpful in developing the discussion. There are some nice numerical examples that are easy to follow. Barry Haworth, University of Louisville

I am very pleased with the level of mathematics in the book. The level is actually quite sophisticated even though it is little more than simple high school algebra. Arne Hallam, Iowa State University
