She worked first as a columnist and feature writer for the Parkersburg News-Sentinel and the Clarksville (Tennessee) Courier. She also wrote the book and lyrics for a Broadway musical in the time she could spare from preparing astrological charts for a sizable clientele. She was married and had four children.
