A New York Times Bestselling Author

The critically acclaimed, beloved, and bestselling author of The Club Dumas delivers his most magnificent novel to date. A remarkable tale, it spans decades and continents - from the dusty streets of Mexico, to the sparkling waters off the coast of Morocco, to the Strait of Gibraltar and Spain - encompassing sensuality and cruelty, love and betrayal, as its heroine's story unfolds.

About the Author:
Arturo Perez-Reverte lives near Madrid. Originally a war correspondent, he now writes fiction full-time. His novels include The Flanders Panel, The Club Dumas, The Fencing Master, The Seville Communion, The Nautical Chart, and The Queen of the South. In 2002, he was elected to the Spanish Royal Academy.
From AudioFile:
Teresa Mendoza is the girlfriend of a Mexican drug smuggler who tells her that if the cell phone rings, she must run for her life--he will already be dead. The story of Teresa's life is one of transformation from a young and dependent girlfriend to a tough and untrusting woman who survives pursuit, prison, and even becoming a drug-runner. Perez-Reverte's novel juxtaposes Teresa's story with that of a reporter writing a book about her life a few years later. Lina Patel copes flawlessly with the characters' Mexican Spanish. However, her narration is too subtle to effectively render Teresa's anger and fear. The characters sound so similar to each other that when Perez-Reverte switches from Teresa's story to that of the reporter, the listener can miss the transition. Book Description Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Guero Davila is a pilot engaged in drug-smuggling for the local cartels. Teresa Mendoza is his girlfriend, a typical narco's morra, quiet, doting, submissive. But then Guero's caught playing both sides and in Sinaloa that means death. Forced to leave Mexico, she flees to the Spanish city of Melilla where she meets Santiago Fisterra, a Galician involved in trafficking hashhish across the Strait of Gibraltar. When Santiago's partner is captured, it is Teresa who steps in to take his place. Now Teresa has plunged into the dark and ugly world that once claimed Guero's life - and she's about to get in deeper . . . The book has been read, but is in excellent condition.
