Excerpt from The Student's Assistant, Or A Key To The Exercises in Ollendorff's New Method Of Learning The German Language<br/><br/>Having, after a careful examination of that Grammar, become conv1nced of its great intrinsic merit, and that its introduction must be a great boon to all who desired to become acquainted, by the easiest possible means, Wlth a language which is so rich, varied and ?exible  a language which owes to itself all  its  *beauties  which possesses in itself undeveloped treasures  i  and' which is susceptible of an indefinite«perfection,  the author of these pages at o'nce resolved on adopting it in his extensive practice as teä'clier; chnceiving that it was' likely to supersede, moref particularly for beginners, every other *srmilar work, with Which he had 'been acquainted;  nor has the result dis appointed his antimpation3, forähe has found the application of that system, in the manner he has availed himself of it, to be in'variably crowned with success. Some of his pupils who, through réh10val or oth'erwme, were' forced to relinquish his further instruction, and who were uncertain whether they might immediately have another opportunity of m'eeting with a master in the hahit of usmg the same grammar, expressed a wish, that they'mightnot be altogether 'deprived of a guide in a study which, so coritrary'to their own fears, had he come plaasing to them, and just at a time when they 'hegan to feel, a firm footing in this new Sphere of'à knowledge; and they have frequently 'requested him to publish correct translations of the exercises.'  He has, consequently, undertaken the task of 'producing this little volume which, he ?atters himself, will gratify some of his late pu pils, and be a means of enabling them and others, similarly situated, to avail themselves, to their full extent, of all the advantages Mr. Ollendorfis me thod most unquestionably offers and he feels pleasure in thus haging, by his very humble ef forts, contributed to make that valuable work  more extensively useful and efficient.
