Handwritten signed letter loosely inserted from John Buxton Hilton to Marian Babson addressed from The White House, Kenninghall, Norwich NR16 2EN dated 10/9/77 and consisting of about 38 words in which he says 'Herewith the latest I hope you find it bearable.' He asks her to apologise to the October Committee on his behalf saying 'I have a blasted tutorial.' Set in Derby at the turn of the century 'Dead-Nettle' involves the murder of a stranger to the town, an old mine and flashbacks to scenes of the Boer War. John Buxton Hilton (1921 1986) was born in Derbyshire. He worked in education and became an Inspector of Schools. He wrote crime fiction including the Superintendent Simon Kenworthy series and the Inspector Thomas Brunt series, of which this is one. He also wrote the Inspector Mosley series using the pseudonym John Greenwood. Marian Babson (born 1929) is the pseudonym of Ruth Stenstreem, a US-born author who has lived in London for most of her life. She has written nearly 50 crime novels and was awarded the Crime Writers' Association Dagger in the Library award for her body of work.
