John Buxton Hilton (1921 – 1986) was born in Derbyshire. He worked in education and became an Inspector of Schools. He wrote crime fiction including the Superintendent Simon Kenworthy series and the Inspector Thomas Brunt series, of which this is one. He also wrote the Inspector Mosley series using the pseudonym John Greenwood. Marian Babson (born 1929) is the pseudonym of Ruth Stenstreem, a US-born author who has lived in London for most of her life. She has written nearly 50 crime novels and was awarded the Crime Writers' Association Dagger in the Library award for her body of work.
