9780333676547: Modern Social Work Theory: A Critical Introduction

An extensive review of one of the most admired books on social work theory, Malcolm Payne has substantially reworked the content as well as the organization of this important theory book in response to the suggestions of academics and practitioners, while retaining the clarity and critical analysis of the previous edition. Used in practice and human behavior courses around the world, this valuable text is still the only one of its kind.

About the Author:

Malcolm Payne is the director of psycho-social and spiritual care at St. Christopher s Hospice in London. He is emeritus professor at Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom. He has been extensively involved in international social work, leading and working on projects to develop social work and social policy in Russia, China, and Eastern Europe. He has written 10 books and 250 shorter works published in 13 languages.

Review:

It provides one of the more thorough and complete reviews of contemporary social work practice theories. I am as enthusiastic about this text today as I was when I received the manuscript of the first edition over 13 years ago. The text has only become richer and once again, Malcolm Payne has provided a stimulating contribution to our profession. --Stephen C. Anderson, New Mexico State University
