About the Author:

PHILIP MARFLEET is Reader in Refugee Studies and Director of the Refugee Research Centre at the University of East London, UK. He has published widely in the fields of development, migration and Middle East studies and is editor (with Ray Kiely) of Globalisation and the Third World.

Review:

This book examines the global picture of forced migration...It first sets the refugee question in a global context, combining historical analysis with an insight into contemporary political cultures. It goes on to look at a number of current issues surrounding asylum, and studies the role the nation-state has to play. Finally it examines the concepts of displacement and flight, concluding with a case for the policy of open oborders. It also offers a critical analysis of refugee policy in Europe, North America and Australia ' - Oxfam Development Resource Review
