This book is one of a series published by Penguin and illustrated by Deborah Niland about the cake-eating hippo friend. Each is about situations in which a child might be apprehensive: starting school, going to hospital or a new baby or birthday party. Various hippo activities like puppet-making, posters and colouring in are provided on the author Hazel Edwards' website. These books are also translated into Chinese by the Sichuan Children's Publishing House.
About the Author:
Hazel Edwards is an Australian author of over 200 books for children and adults. The cake-eating hippo was created in the first book 'There's a Hippopotamus On Our Roof Eating Cake', when her 4 year old son made the comment about the noises on their roof.In 2012 , a film created by Pocket Bonfire Productions was screened at the Sydney Opera House(but not on the roof!) and was shown internationally at children's film festivals.
