A complete course in spoken and written Finnish, ideal both for the complete beginner and for those seeking to brush up rusty skills. Based on the Council of Europe's guidelines on language learning it is a practical, modern course with a graded structure. The first five units cover "survival language" - enough to get by in everyday situations: the pace is then stepped up and the learner is given a thorough grounding in Finnish grammar and vocabulary. The course contains lots of background information on Finnish culture and institutions and there is a high level of illustrations throughout the text.
