In the year thirteen thousand six hundred and eight,
Lived a father much greater than greater-than-great.
He was not just a dad, but a grandfather too.
He lived on the planet of Outer Kwandu. . . .
Quirky, whimsical, and brimming with wit, this fun-loving new collection from the author of The Butterfly Jar hops, skips, and soars across history and into the future to introduce us to a vast cast of colorful kids and their remarkable dads.
Meet a cave-girl named Gloog, who gripes and complains, then learns a valuable lesson. . . Philo's father, a humble potter in ancient Greece whose flagons and jars pass an impressive test of time. . . spunky Eleanor, who helps her knight-dad--without any hassle--to conquer a dragon who had bothered a vassal. . . Francisco di Morra, the best-known explorer of 1505, who brought back a purple-striped tiger alive!
What game did a father and son discover a million years before people could talk? Would you be happy if you had to move to a new neighborhood across the ocean. . . in 1622? And would things have turned out so scary and bad, if Little Red Riding Hood had had a dad?
Through nine inventive stories in verse, this sometimes wacky, always wonderful collection shows how the affection of dads is not only timeless but universal. From prehistoric places full of dinosaur bones to a zany galaxy a zillion miles away, these magical stories will resonate with fathers, mothers, and kids everywhere.
