Do you knowthat low-fat yogurt, bagels, oranges, bananas, and pasta can make you fat?
Do you know that swearing off the chocolate you love can make you put on pounds?
Do you know that you don't need willpower to diet? What you do need is a program that is medically safe, nutritionally sound, and promises astonishing results by taking away your urge to overeat. It's The 5-Day Miracle Diet.
When East Coast CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, actors, socialites, and famous sports figures need to lose weight, chances are their doctors refer them to Adele Puhn. She has helped thousands of men and women in the past eighteen years. Her lucky clients not only lose weight more easily than they ever dreamed possible, but they keep the weight off forever. The reason for their success is Adele Puhn's revolutionary eating program, which is based on cutting-edge biochemical research and years of experience.
Seventy-five percent of The 5-Day Miracle Diet is biochemistry. Glucose is the fuel your body needs to keep going, but when unbalanced eating drops blood glucose levels below a certain point, your body responds with an uncontrollable food craving--usually for a carbo-laden, sugary treat like chocolate, ice cream, cookies, even alcohol--that will give your body an instant hit. The problem is that the overdose of glucose starts insulin flowing so profusely that the rug is pulled out from under you. You are left in a state of low blood sugar with a need to eat more.
With Adele Puhn's program, you will learn to eat certain foods at certain times to regulate your blood sugar and keep it stable all day long . When you're in "good blood sugar," your cravings disappear--a process that takes just five days! And not only will you lose your cravings, you'll steadily melt away pounds while feeling more energized, mentally focused, and healthier than ever before.
The other twenty-five percent of her program tackles the fathead mentality that most of us share: the emotional reasons that make us overeat. Adele Puhn gives you powerful strategies for fighting the fathead's sabotaging ways, whether you overeat in response to your feelings, family issues, or old habits that are hard to let go.
So toss our your food pyramids, low-fat cookies, and carbo-packed meals. And throw away words like willpower, motivation , and urges . Adele Puhn's program works with your body, not against it, to bring you fabulous results--the weight loss you've always wanted, easier than you ever dreamed possible.

Devilishly handsome actor Ralph Feinnes, who packed on pounds for his role in Schindler's List, followed this plan and said it helped him keep his energy level high enough to survive his grueling, eight-times-a-week performances of Hamlet. The word "diet" in the title may be a bit misleading, as it's more of a blood sugar-regulating eating schedule; once blood sugar is normalized, says author Adele Puhn, cravings soon dissipate, and that helps excess pounds fall off almost by themselves. It's not a five-day diet, either, as the title implies; rather, that's the amount of time it takes to get your blood sugar fully normalized.
Puhn, who has a master's degree in medical biology and has been certified as a nutritional specialist by the American College of Nutrition, has 20 years of experience working with this diet. She says that timing is the key. Each day, there's a mandatory snack within two hours of breakfast, and two more snacks in the afternoon. There are a few no-no foods that would cause a rush of blood sugar (no pasta for lunch, no plain bagels for breakfast, no grapes for snacks), but other than that, the program is remarkably simple. Puhn says that losing weight is 75 percent physiological (cravings sabotaging your efforts) and 25 percent psychological, such as when your inner "fathead" says you have to have that piece of chocolate birthday cake or you'll hurt Aunt Fanny's feelings. The 5 Day Miracle Diet shows you how to conquer both of these forces, leading to weight loss, improvements in energy, and decreases in blood pressure and cholesterol levels. While its advice may be unusual (vegetables or turkey get the okay for breakfast), its message is clearly sane. It's "not about never eating certain things again. It's about learning how to live harmoniously with your food."From the Publisher:
When I started working on the manuscript for this book, I had no idea that this would be the book that would change my mother's life.
I gave it to my mother for her birthday when it first came out since she was constantly complaining that no matter how much she dieted, she could not seem to lose weight. I figured that this book, written by a successful nutritionist, might be helpful. I also knew from working on it that it was well written and easy to follow.
At first, my mother was skeptical. A 5-day miracle? Yeah, right. Then she actually started reading the book and following the diet. The first five days were difficult, but Adele (my mother was now on first-name basis with the author) had told her to expect this, so she gritted her teeth and persevered. After those five days, my mother called me up to tell me she was a changed woman. She had more energy; she didn't feel like a limp dishtowel after lunch anymore; she felt healthier than she had ever felt in her life. She told me that this could not possibly be a diet because she wasn't ever hungry, and that even though she wasn't eating sugary foods, she didn't miss them at all. No more cravings!
My mother has loved this book and this diet ever since, and yes: she finally lost the weight she had wanted to lose -- and kept it off! -- although to her this weight loss is almost incidental to how she feels physically. She has recommended this book to all of her friends, and I think she might be singlehandedly responsible for at least one of the reprinting orders.
