There was a wee woman who lived in a shoe with her many wee children (their tiny pets, too). Six crammed in a bed, tangled up in a heap. Some wrangled, some dangled. Jack groaned, “I can’t sleep.” What’s a mother to do? Why, find a bigger home, of course! Bouncy, enthusiastic Jill leads the way, but brother Jack warns, “There are giants out there! They will eat us for snacks!’’
Playful verse and whimsical pictures pull readers into this miniature family’s glorious adventure full of brave actions, comic mishaps, and the joy of discovering a perfect – if surprising – new home in a dollhouse.

ERICA SILVERMAN’s books include Follow the Leader, which Kirkus Reviews called an “imaginative romp,” and Sholom’s Treasure, winner of the Sydney Taylor Book Award. She lives in southern California. From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2—The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe gets her own book in this expanded version of the familiar nursery rhyme. The harried mother, fed up with her cramped living quarters, packs up her six children, the family cow, and other pets, and they set off to find a roomier abode. Although they are small enough to fall out of a hole in a shirt pocket and are dwarfed by a field rat, they have no luck until a kind giant (actually a little girl) allows them to live in her dollhouse. The folksy illustrations follow the tiny family of freckled redheads as they wander gamely along clotheslines, through mud puddles, and past oversize bluebells in search of the perfect home. Told in rhyming couplets, the story holds no big surprises, but is a pleasant enough read.—Martha Simpson, Stratford Library Association, CT
