The range of personalities of the preservationists, from the flamboyant to the restrained, is as wide as the range of restorations covered here. From a small New England Cape Cod house to a grand home by Frank Lloyd Wright in Buffalo, New York, Howard reveals that preservation knows many forms but grows from often very personal missions. The author brings to us the sense of struggle and motivation that guides each preservationist. A weakness is the scarcity of photographs and illustrations to enhance such a visual topic. Recommended for academic, museum, and public libraries.
