MOO! ARF! QUACK!
What kind of cat makes noises like that? A little cat with a big personality! You see, sometimes Tom feels more like a cow, or a snail, or even a kangaroo than a cat. What a silly goose! But one thing is for sure, Mom and Dad Cat love their little cat no matter who he thinks he is. And one day, he even surprises himself! With fresh, spare illustrations that beguile, Noah Woods has created a lovable new character all kids can identify with.

Noah Woods is an award-winning editorial and commercial illustrator. A Society of Illustrators Gold and Silver Medalist, Noah s impressive client roster includes UNICEF, Barnes & Noble, Yahoo!, Time, and many other notable magazines. Tom Cat is his first children s book. The artwork for this book was created with acrylic paint on Bristol paper; it was not computer-generated or enhanced. The author lives in Los Angeles, CA.
PreS. Using arresting geometric shapes to form Tom, his main character (circles for the head and body, triangles for ears, and rectangular arms and legs), Woods introduces a kitten who is a little different: he quacks, moos, and even arfs. When told that cats like to chase mice, Tom says, "Then I must be an elephant . . . mice scare me." OK, so Tom is something of an oddball as he tries to build a nest and jumps up and down like a kangaroo, but his parents agree they'll love him no matter what animal he thinks he is. One day, however, Tom meows, and his new, improved persona is formed. Woods' computer-enhanced artwork uses a minimum of images (though many are quite large), scattered across crisp, white pages. The elemental, sparely used shapes give the art the distinction of looking vintage, hip, and modern at the same time, and the message about marching to a different drummer will resonate with children, who, like Tom, may not fit into the mold.
