About the Author
Catherine Aird is the author of more than twenty volumes of detective mysteries and three collections of short stories. Most of her fiction features Detective Inspector C. D. Sloan and Detective Constable W. E. Crosby. Aird holds an honorary master's degree from the University of Kent and was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to the Girl Guide Association. She lives in a village in East Kent, England.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First American edition hardcover, with dust jacket, published by Doubleday, 1977. This is the first American edition, a first printing copy. The 7th novel in the Sloan and Crosby series. In this one, the team is investigating a case that involves a long lost letter purporting to identify Jane Austen's hitherto unknown lover. 187 pages, 5-3/4" X 8-1/2". The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped. Jacket has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket has one small chip at the front bottom edge, some rubbing wear at the head of the spine panel, edge wear at the front and back right side edges. Cover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or worn. Edges of the text block are clean, the binding is tight and square. There is a former price written in ink on the top corner of the first flyleaf page, with '1st US ed 1977' written next to that price too, no further writing besides that, no former ownership marks.
