Volume I (522 pp) covers the Anasazi, considered the original inhabitants of the region. It includes chapters on Chaco Canyon, Kayenta and Mesa Verde. Copiously illustrated with drawings of crafts, tools, dwellings. rock art and maps. There are 19 full color plates of paintings by the author who also provided all of the illustrations. Volume II (534 pp) covers the culture of Pueblo Indians of the present and the past. It is divided into five chapters including the Hopi, Zuni, Acoma and Laguna. Pueblos of the Rio Grande Valley are covered by region. Volume II contains 20 color plates in addition to copious drawings. Each volume has Notes, a Glossary of terms, a bibliography and an index. The scope of this work is broad and is impressive in its detail. With both volumes the cloth coverings and gilt lettering is in excellent condition. Both jackets are price-clipped and show wear. Small tears have been repaired. They are both covered in mylar. Bindings for both are in sound condition. True first editions, in hardcover.
