Grade 1-3-When members of the mouse family find an unused firecracker, they decide to use it to fly to the moon. So that they will be able to return to Earth, they build a spaceship out of an egg carton to take along. Using the firecracker as a booster rocket, they take off, unaware that the cunning and snappish D. Rat has joined them as an unwelcome stowaway. He wishes to claim the moon as his own ("Everyone knows the moon is made of cheese"). Once there, however, he realizes that he must cooperate with the mice in order to return home. This weak and silly story is illustrated with drab, old-fashioned looking illustrations. It creates neither enough humor nor adventure to hold the attention of young listeners.
