ea. vol: (Morgan Swift Series). CIP. Random. Nov. 1985. pap. $1.95. Grade 7-9 This series aspires to be a female version of Indiana Jones, but it is much too self-conscious to carry it off. Morgan Swift is a karate expert, a world traveler and can foretell the future. Unfortunately, none of these special traits ever makes more than a momentary difference to Morgan's basically static character. As for high adventure, this is standard B-movie material. . . .the Mindmaster is a sinister guru who is hypnotizing Morgan's students (she teaches high-school chemistry), and . . .the Trail of the Jaguar leads to a secret jungle treasure cave. Along the way, there are the usual secret warnings, kidnappings and ambushes by vicious thugs. For all her vaunted ESP ability, Morgan consistently walks unheedingly into the most obvious traps and leads her companions into needless danger without a second thought. Worst of all, at the climax of each story, Morgan finds herself trapped by the Villain of the Week and has to be rescued by whatever handsome young man is playing the lead this time. Where is Indiana Jones when we really need him? Elaine E. Knight, Lincoln Elementary Schools, Ill.
