Fifth grader Bradley Chalkers is bright, imaginative, antisocial and friendless. Unlike the kids at school, who hate him, Bradley's collection of chipped and broken little pottery animals allows him to be brave, smart and vulnerable; he uses them to resolve the rejection of peers and adults. Jeff, a new boy at school, offers friendship but then withdraws his offer, because Bradley is hard to like. Enter Carla Davis, new school counselor, who is caring and funny, and who gradually helps restore Bradley's self-confidence. Feelings and emotions are strongly evoked in this touching and serious story of a disturbed child that is infused with humor and insight.

This book is about a fifth-grade bully named Bradley whose behavior improves after intervention from Carla, a new school counselor is sort of a misfit like Bradley. All is going well for the NEW Bradley. The title comes from a point when a character, Jeff, who just moved to the school from Washington DC, is horribly embarrassed after accidentally entering the girls' bathroom while trying to go to the school counselor's office when a teacher gives him the wrong directions. With Carla's help, Bradley tries to change his ways and since students are so used to the OLD Bradley the New Bradley is hard to accept but not impossible. A clean very presentable copy.
