PreSchool-Grade 1 Sebastian, a curious kitten, leads readers on a delightful romp out doors. Peek-a-boo flaps and cut-outs function as part of the illustrations to allow readers to join Sebastian on his quest. The cut-outs are carefully meshed into the scenery on the page and reveal both forthcoming and previ ous events. The text is simple, and the tone is playful. In search of an elusive bunny, Sebastian explores the country side, encountering a family of hedge hogs, farm animals, frogs at the pond, a mouse, a horse, and finally a dog, who chases him back home. Sebastian never does find the bunny, although it can be found in most scenes cleverly blended with the background. The pleasant sto ry is playfully illustrated in watercolor and is suffused with light. Illustrations have interesting perspectives with small surprises.
