A child's feet make a variety of sounds walking in a puddle, stepping on a metal grid, trudging upstairs, and wearing different types of shoes.

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-- A little girl explores the different sounds her feet make while walking through puddles or wearing various shoes. The concept is a good one, but the book itself is a disappointment. The text is acceptable, but the illustrations are static and poorly executed. The child's poses are stiff, and the watercolor pictures are outlined and detailed with soft pencils, creating a messy look. One almost wants to clean the pages with an eraser. Each double-page spread shows the girl and the main action on one side, while the simple text and a puppy are on the other. The puppy serves as an audience for the child, provides a unifying theme, and fills an otherwise sparse area with unnecessary cuteness. The two pages do not work well together even though an attempt has been made to pull them together with an encircling border. --Debby Jeffery, San Francisco Public Library

From Publishers Weekly:

In this Just Right book, a girl in bright-red boots mimics the sounds that her boots make on a walk to her grandmother's house: "Splish! Splash! Splosh!" in puddles and "Clang! Clang! Clang!" on metal grids. She also notices the squeaks in a new pair of Mary Janes, the shuffle of her old slippers and the quiet of her bare feet on the carpet, as she tiptoes in to her parents' bedroom to get warm in their bed. Julian-Ottie's illustrations are softly realistic, filling out the actions implied in the text. The book lacks momentum, however; in the quest for simplicity the author did not include details that would involve children even minimally. Ages 2-3.
