"Browne brings a fresh perspective and his own witty visual imagination even to such simple-seeming books as these small catalogs of enthusiasms. Mass-market appeal combined with excellent quality."--Kirkus

About the Author:

Anthony Browne is rightly regarded as one of the world's leading picturebook creators.  He lives in England with his wife and two children.  He has won awards in many countries, including the Kate Greenaway Medal of England for GORILLA and ZOO,  and the Kurt Maschler Award of Germany for GORILLA.  His inspiration for GORILLA came from a combination of things -- a greeting card he'd designed of a huge macho gorilla holding a teddy bear, a very lonely boy he knew whose father lived in New Zealand, his own fascination with gorillas.  The behavior of a real family provided the idea for PIGGYBOOK (not his own, however!)  When the book was completed, he presented the family with a copy, without comment.  But they didn't see any relevance to themselves!
From the Trade Paperback edition.

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-K-- As he did in Willy the Wimp and Gorilla (both Knopf, 1985), Browne will again captivate preschoolers with his charming chimp, simple sentences, and colorful, action-filled illustrations. In I Like Books, a young chimp shows readers fat and thin books, funny and scary books, alphabet and counting books, and others. Each uncluttered illustration is surrounded by a thin-line frame with a small detail from the picture at each corner. Things I Like includes activities most children will have experienced or hope to: dressing up, kicking a ball, wading in the sea (wearing waterwings, of course). The very youngest will relate to Things I Like, while a slightly more sophisticated level of understanding is needed to fully comprehend the relationship between the adjective describing the books and the illustrations, although . . . Books does provide an elementary introduction to categories and kinds of books. --Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, NE
