From School Library Journal:

Grade 6-10 Skeeter's hero is William Shakespeare, and as she studies A Midsummer Night's Dream in school, she finds that she is involved in her own comedy of errors. Terry Peat, Skeeter's pen pal since eighth grade, has written that she is moving to town and looking forward to their being friends in person. Skeeter is faced with disaster. In her letters she has projected herself to center stage, as the popular-girl-with-steady-boyfriend that she only dreams of being. Now, to maintain the deception, she enlists support from best friend Gena and would-be boyfriend Campbell. The plot thickens. The climax is reached when Campbell introduces "Pete," a handsome new boy in town, who turns out to be none other than her pen pal. The characters and the humor are mixed and shuffled from the beginning to the all's-well ending, when Skeeter realizes that she need no longer put on an act. Throughout, Killien delineates believable characters and adeptly creates scenes of adolescent relationships and emotions that ring true. Young teenagers will enjoy this brush with Shakespeare's mime. Older reluctant readers also will appreciate Killien's economical first-person style and sure sense of comedy. Katharine Bruner, Brown Middle School Library, Harrison, Tenn.

From Publishers Weekly:

Skeeter McGee secretly reads romance novels, worships William Shakespeare and has a crush on Campbell Lancaster, the star of Queen Anne High's basketball team. To make matters worse, an old pen pal is moving to her hometown and Skeeter will have to face her own liesparticularly regarding Campbell, who she's claimed is her steady boyfriend. A comedy of errors ensues as the time of her friend's arrival draws near, with Skeeter caught in the middle of an agonizing muddle that culminates in a surprise ending. This modern-day Midsummer Night's Dream is a promising debut for its first-time author.
