From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 1 A charming, albeit simple story of a little sheep, Baa-Baa, who has trouble falling asleep. Her grandmother takes her to a dream factory where she observes other sheep creating dreams and sending them up the chimney to float to people's homes and help lull them to sleep. All the dreams are pleasant ones, as is the ending, and although this book just misses being cloying, a few clever touches lift it above that level. The bright magic marker and tempera illustrations are appropriate to the story line. Observant readers will notice some creative background detail: the small cow jumping to the moon and dangling on it; the computer in the dream factory with Baa-Baa's name on the monitor, etc. This book does not equal James Stevenson's We Can't Sleep (1982) or Holly Keller's Ten Sleepy Sheep (1983, both Greenwillow) but it should hold some appeal for small children. From Publishers Weekly:

A little sheep named Baa Baa has trouble sleeping, so her grandmother takes her on a journey over mountains and seas to the Dream Factory. The "factory" appears to be a modest little house, but inside it's quite different. A flock of sheep busily produce dreams made of fleece; from a big purple machine puffs dozens of dreams in the shape of clouds. A cutaway view of the house shows all the activity both upstairs and downstairs, and one can see the dreams blown out the chimney by a bellows. Using bright, cartoon-like images, Karlin has transformed the phrase "counting sheep" into a fresh and funny bedtime story sure to lull the most reluctant sleeper into dreamland. Ages 2-6.
