A rigorous probe of near-death experiences, based on interviews with more than fifty people who have had them, reveals a strong belief in the afterlife, a commitment to love and spiritual growth, and the loss of fear of death.

Does heaven exist? Where is it? What is it like? Who will go there? Are there angelic guides to heaven? Journalist Cox-Chapman, herself a near-death experiencer, explores such questions in interviews with over 50 other experiencers, comparing contemporary near-death experiences with those of historical figures as well as with examples from scriptures of various religious traditions. Drawing on relativity theory and astrophysics, the author offers the possibility that heaven is another dimension of reality. While recognizing the impossibility of "proving" that heaven exists, she says that "we can show that there is all the room in the world for its location." Overall, this is an engaging examination of near-death experiences as evidence of an afterlife. Skeptics will find it unconvincing; believers will find it reassuring. References and a substantial bibliography guide readers to other books on the topic. Given the popular interest in the subject, most libraries will get their money's worth from this book.?Linda V. Cox-Chapman, after a near-death experience of her own, interviewed 51 people who revealed the effects of brief visits to otherworldly realms while on the brink of death. Her book is not simply a collection of anecdotes or recollections. She has assembled religious and secular research to definitely make a case for heaven, inserting the first-person accounts amid discussions of such issues as "What Is Heaven Like?" and "Heaven and Healthcare." Throughout, the author mentions organizations for those interested in NDEs (Near Death Experiences) but does not cite the names and addresses in her bibliography, which consists primarily of religious and philosophical reading material.
