Excerpt from Ai: A Social Vision
The Amalgamation of Forces.
O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,

There was a ripple of excitement in what constituted the fashionable circle of Philadelphia, when it leaked out that the Hamilton girls had gone off and married the Burr brothers. Alice and Enid Hamilton were twin sisters, and were great favorites among the ultra fashionable. They had a long pedigree of honorable associations, were blessed with an abundance of worldly goods, and their personality was bright and attractive, so that they had hosts of admirers, among whom they numbered some worthy of being counted friends. They were known as the pretty Hamilton girls.
