This practical book focuses on the technique of LLETZ (the large loop excision of the transformation zone), a new method of management for women with an abnormal cervical smear which offers the advantages of conization with those of local destruction. Apart from a comprehensive assessment of LLETZ itself, the book considers, in a critical manner, the effect of other methods of managing early cervical disease. Due attention is also paid to the principles of competent colposcopic examination and its role in detecting cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. In addition, there are up to date chapters discussing the management of complications associated with LLETZ, selection of patients for treatment, the role of cervical screening and the psychologicl effect of an abnormal cervical smear on the patient.
