Drawing upon interviews with the playwright and contributions from actors, directors, designers, reviewers and writers, this tribute to Arthur Miller charts his life and details the events which provided material for his plays. It also discusses the moral and political issues the plays address.

The most valuable part of this festschrift for Miller is a long, composite interview with the playwright that Bigsby conducted over ten years, arranged chronologically. Bigsby is the ideal interviewer, using one-line questions to nudge Miller into lengthy, anecdotal, thought-provoking responses. Other brief commentaries (some little more than snippets of well-wishing) are inserted as they reflect on issues or works discussed in the interviews. Some are simply unimportant, others amusing in a gossipy manner, but many make a contribution to the critical and appreciative literature on Miller. This is for informed laypersons and specialists.
