Synopsis
The fourth edition of this text has been extensively rewritten to take account of developments in the British media since publication of the third edition in 1988. The book analyzes the way in which broadcasting has been shaped by recent government legislation and discusses the rise of satellite television. Looking to possible futures for the media in Britain, it shows that both the Left and Right are split, in similar ways, over how to reform the media. This book should be of interest to students and teachers of communication studies, media studies, politics and sociology.

James Curran is Professor of Communications at Goldsmiths' College, University of London. Jean Seaton is Quintin Hogg Research Fellow and Reader in Communications at the Centre for Communications and Information Studies at the University of Westminster
