Catherine Sophianis a professor in the department of psychology at the University of Hawaii. Her research on children's understanding of mathematical ideas spans the fields of developmental psychology and mathematics education. She has published extensively in both psychological and educational journals, and is the author of the earlier book,Children's Numbers, as well as co-author on theNumber and Numerationvolume in the NCTM Essential Understandings series.
