From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3-- "My Naughty Little Sister" is all the oh-so-proper young narrator ever calls her sibling. And naughty she is, in that wide-eyed, boundary-testing, ultimately endearing way of inquisitive preschoolers. Originally published in 3 separate volumes, some 30 to 40 years ago, the narrative has a Christopher Robin-ish tone--precious and cautionary--that might have been offensive in another context, but here seems wholly appropriate and fitting to the setting and the narrator's voice. Hughes's watercolor-and-ink drawings firmly establish this as a bygone era of dresses and trousers and hard-soled shoes (and, yes, middle-class homogeneity). The book's large, open, generously illustrated format makes it an inviting choice for young readers and family read-alouds. As always, Hughes knows just which moments to illustrate and which to leave to the imagination; as always, she is attentive to nuances of expression that extend and enrich the narrative. "My Naughty Little Sister" is audacious and outrageous, yet clearly well loved by all. What better message for the sometimes cross and naughty reader (of any age).
