Pet detective Delilah Doolittle is searching for a missing dog and trying to stop the setting of illegal traps on the wetlands of Surf City. Delilah goes to see Bill Jackson, who works with the parks and recreation department, to talk about the traps. But when she arrives at his house she finds him sprawled on the floor with a knife in his chest. Later that week, all the local residents at a Coastal committee meeting are discussing the controversy over the conservation or development of the wetlands, and the murder of Bill Jackson. During a seemingly innocent conversation with an acquaintance, Delilah reveals bits of information and later, another murder is committed but this victim left a clue. Are the two murders related or just coincidences and do they have anything to do with the wetlands or the illegal traps? First of all, there is no romance in this book but it is a delightful, well-crafted whodunit that reads fast and will hold your interest and keep you on your toes. Delilah surrounds herself with animals and seems to stumble into trouble wherever she goes. The entire cast of characters is well developed, including the cats and dogs! However I was a little disappointed with the end of the book though others might feel it is a superb twist of the plot. You don't have to love animals to enjoy this book by Patricia Guiver! The supporting cast of motley mutts are adorable! Patricia Guiver skillfully combines people and pets into an intriguing plot to create a charming book! Top notch writing!
