Reviews

Before anyone knew about the problems with Enron, the largest employer in Larksdale, Minnesota, PMT Software, is about to be bought out by a giant, Enron-like conglomerate. While the employees are in favor of the deal, which will make them millionaires, the ladies of the Mostly Methodist Club predict trouble ahead on the dot-com horizon and oppose the deal, but they get overruled. Callie Brentland, an honorary member of the club, is an engineer at the firm with dreams of heading to Hollywood, but she stays to help the town recover once the boom becomes a bust. Callie and friends hope to find a way to get the town's economy back on track by secretly developing a new product. The ladies initially bankroll the project, but even they have been hit hard economically and are running out of cash. Hartwick's terrific follow-up to Ladies with Options (2001) brings back her spunky investors and introduces a host of fresh characters as she shows what the underdog can do when things get rough.
