After he asks all his friends for suggestions, Tom still cannot decide what color he wants his new sweater to be so he decides to have Grandma make it all the colors of the rainbow

PreSchool-Grade 1 --A bright and bouncy British dreamtime fantasy in which preschooler Tom chases after a huge ball of yarn. Along the way he asks the animals he meets to help him choose a color for his new sweater; the foxes, chicks, frogs, fish, and pig all feel their own color is best. Tom finally decides to choose them all and awakens to discover his grandmother has finished knitting him a rainbow sweater, as colorful as a rooster. Anholt's whimsical watercolor washes are warm and comforting, featuring round and smiling characters. For a group story hour, a better choice is Serfozo's bolder Who Said Red? (McElderry, 1988). However, Anholt's book is full of charming tiny details and good cheer, making it an excellent choice for lap-sitters. --Susannah Price, Boise Public Library, ID
