Holloway describes Douglas's "relationships with Compton Mackenzie, Ouida, the bookseller Orioli, and D.H. Lawrence..." and his extensive time spent in Italy. Douglas's books are discussed at length, and Holloway does not shy away from mentioning the various scandals associated with Douglas's interest in teenage boys (which caused him to flee from England, and later Italy).
