Grade 4-8 In this fast-paced Western story, Ivan, 13, and his mother travel from one California town to another searching for Ivan's father who disappeared years before. They travel in a gypsy wagon and make a living telling fortunes as Madame Sophia and Ivan Romanoff, "world's foremost palmist." In Imperial Junction Ivan sees the sheriff robbing a grave, but later, Ivan and his mother are accused of the crime and are nearly hanged for it. Plot and characterization are a bit thin, but action, humor, and suspense will keep adventure lovers intrigued. This should be popular on the mystery shelves and will beaccessible to slow junior high readers. Nancy Kewish, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Cleveland
