Signals kicks off an exciting series of novels by Air Force Reserve captain and UFO authority Kevin D. Randle that takes us through the future evolution of man and machine, in which the search for intelligent life becomes the catalyst of our dreams-and the stars, our destination.
In New Mexico, devices monitoring the desert skies pick up faint but unmistakable sounds.
SIGNALS
Coming from a mere fifty light years away and headed toward Earth. But will the approaching beings be friendly? As Earth struggles toward a unified response, and panic spreads, the signals grow ever clearer, ever closer. We are about to meet our neighbors...

Randle, a prolific sf writer and an expert on UFOs, launches a new series. Toward the middle of the century, radio signals are detected that are unmistakably of intelligent origin. After a while, it comes to appear that their source is a faster-than-light alien ship, and shortly after that, an ambitious politician blows the whistle and causes worldwide panic. A more constructive response follows, as a new space station is converted into a long-range interplanetary ship that is armed and equipped to meet the signaling aliens in the Oort Cloud out beyond Pluto. The result of the attempted meeting is rather anticlimactic, for the aliens simply shift to their faster-than-light drive and go on about their business. Randle handles both politics on earth and tensions aboard the ship with above-average skill, which bodes well for the future of the series. Roland Green
