This volume covers specialized microscopical methods with particular reference to those techniques which are widely used; however, methods less known in practice are also discussed to the extent necessary to give a full insight into the state of the art in modern light microscopy.
The main emphasis is on qualitative and descriptive methods, but a number of selected aspects of quantitative microscopy are also examined. The most significant quantitative methods and measuring techniques will be fully treated in Volume 3.

...an impressive undertaking and a thorough treatment of modern microscopy. This present volume confirms my initial judgement that the entire work constitutes a modern classic of light microscopy...This is a must have four-star work.
This set of volumes is a welcome addition to the optical microscope literature, and fills a great need...It achieves its goals admirably and will become a widely consulted reference book in any serious microscope laboratory...very impressive in its coverage and deserves to be widely consulted in microscopy laboratories around the world.
