There are two basic types of dog obedience books: the type that teaches classic methods for achieving results in obedience trials; and the kind that shows how to conquer behavior problems (e.g., excessive barking or biting) by discovering the reasons for the behavior. McSoley's book is of the latter type (as are Myrna Milani's The Invisible Leash , LJ 11/15/85; Mordecai Segal and Matthew Margolis's When Good Dogs Do Bad Things, LJ 9/15/86; and Warren and F a y Eckstein's Understanding Your Pet , LJ 1/86). Dog Tales contains much the same information as those earlier titles, but presents it in a more homespun manner. An all-right purchase. Susan Matusak, Wilson Coll. Lib., Chambersburg, Pa.
