The Mesabi Iron Range was a Melting Pot. In the 1880s and early 1900s, people of more than twenty-five different nationalities from around the world migrated to this region in Northeastern Minnesota. they worked side by side in the iron ore mines to put bread on the table. They lived side by side and shared their customs, beliefs and food tastes which they had brought with them from the "old country." Eventually all these different nationalities with their different cultural backgrounds were blended together in a Melting Pot and voila, they emerged as Americans!
