Jane Goodger deserves gold stars for undertaking the unusual challenge of portraying a marriage in crisis in this novel of romance and suspense set in turn-of-the-century Massachusetts. Like many women of her time, Rose is an innocent who married Luke Beaudette, a handsome and successful assistant prosecutor, without knowing him--or herself--very well. Placid on the surface, their marriage seethes underneath with unspoken longings and repressed passions. Then Rose becomes caught up with a fun-loving husband and wife who offer an excitement she's never known, and whose ulterior motives she never suspects. Suddenly she needs Luke as never before, to help fight a criminal accusation that threatens to put her in jail. Reminiscent of some Hitchcock movies, Dancing with Sin presents a portrait of an ordinary woman caught up in extraordinary circumstances, of a young marriage tested by extreme conditions. A romance of a different ilk, the book will especially appeal to those who are interested in exploring the complexities, contradictions, and tensions that often exist within a loving relationship. --Ellen Edwards
Jane Goodger lives in Wickford, Rhode Island with her husband and two children. Goodger worked as a journalist for eleven years and was national editor of a business magazine before devoting herself to writing romances full time. She was winner of the 1997 HOLT Medallion for her debut book.
