Synopsis

The second edition of Concise Australian Commercial Law (CACL) is a new compilation edition of Turner and Trone, Australian Commercial Law, 29th edition (ACL). Only those topics that are usually covered in commercial law courses have been extracted from ACL – an introduction to the law and the Australian legal system, the law of contract, tort law, a section on business relationships that includes the law of agency, the law of partnerships, and corporations law. Each of these topics retains the same comprehensive, accessible, accurate and up-to-date text that is the hallmark of ACL. However, in order to assist students, the authors have included a considerable number of new cases, longer case summaries and additional explanatory text throughout the book. This is particularly true in relation to Chapter 1 ‘the Australian Legal System’, in many parts of ‘The Law of Contract’ and in Chapter 13, ‘Consumer Protection’.

Some of the topics covered in this text have seen significant legislative change and/or judicial clarification or development. These include the new “unfair contract terms” and the enforcement and remedies provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) and the extension and consolidation of other consumer protection provisions in the new Australian Consumer Law (Sch 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)). This new edition incorporates these changes.

To assist students and lecturers alike, Concise Australian Commercial Law contains a number of tutorial activities at the end of each chapter. It also includes a new section on how to approach the hypothetical law problem that is such a constant feature of tutorial activity and most forms of assessment in law units.
